CLAY CITY, KY – This past week marked the first World Cup in a series of four stages before the World Cup Finals! This week archers were looking to place as high as possible to start qualifying for the World Cup Finals.
GAS Bowstrings shooters found lots of success in the men’s compound division! Mathias Fullerton took the lead in qualifications with a 717, one point away from breaking the world record! Mathias, along with his teammates in the men’s compound Denmark team, found victory in team matches by taking first place with a 234 score against the USA’s 233.
The USA men’s team also found success in Antalya where they finished in second place as a team! This team included GAS Bowstrings shooters Braden Gellenthien and Jimmy Lutz. In addition to their second-place finish, they beat the world record for a combined team qualifying score of 2140!
The women’s compound division also tallied many GAS Bowstrings successes! After qualifications, the top three ladies were all GAS Bowstrings shooters! Jyothi Vennam qualified in first with a 713, Dafne Quintero in second with a 711, and Sara Lopez in third with a 710! In addition, out of the ladies who qualified in the top 10, six were GAS Bowstrings shooters!
With Jyothi’s incredible 713, she tied the world record and broke the Asian record for a qualifying score at the World Cup! She then went on to take first place in individual eliminations and first place in mixed-team matches! Sara Lopez took second place individually after her gold medal match with Jyothi!
The GAS Bowstrings trio of Madison Cox, Cassidy Cox, and Danelle Lutz fought through the women’s compound team rounds where they went from qualifying in 8th place to a 1st place victory! They beat the women’s compound Colombian team by just one point 230-229. The women’s compound Colombian team included two GAS Bowstrings shooters, Sara Lopez, and Alejandra Usquiano.
To fill out the women’s compound team podium, the Mexican team finished in third place after a hard-fought bronze medal match! They beat their competitors 234-230! This team included two GAS Bowstrings shooters, Dafne Quintero, and Andrea Becerra.
In the recurve division, Brady Ellison qualified in second place with an incredible score of 687! He then went on to mixed team rounds where he and his teammate took first place by beating their competitors 5 set points to 3!
We would like to congratulate everyone who made the podiums at Antalya! It seems as if at each competition, the number of GAS Bowstrings shooters present increases along with the number of GAS shooters on the podium! We are excited to see this and cannot wait to see how these shooters place at the next World Cup!
