CLAY CITY, KY. – The Mathews Pro/Am ASA at Metropolis brought along its own series of challenges as the shooting rounds on Sunday were canceled and all scores were leveled to 200 leaving only Saturday and applicable Friday scores still standing. Even amongst the challenges, GAS shooters still took over the podiums!
The biggest news of the weekend was that there was a huge upset in the Men’s Open Pro division as Jacob Slusarz won the championship title! The open pro division has been heavily dominated by only two archers, winning every pro event the last few seasons before Jacob’s huge win this past weekend. This was also Jacob’s first pro podium at an ASA event!
Next in the women’s pro division, two GAS shooters made the podium! Sharon Wallace continued her incredible performance placing 2nd at Metropolis. This will be her 4th straight podium of the year! Katie Bordwell took 3rd place with only 3 points under Sharon!
In the men’s known pro division, Kyle Douglas continues his podium streak as he placed 3rd at Metropolis this year and only 4 points under the top two scores! In the men’s senior known 50 division, GAS had two more shooters place top 3! Tony Fleshman placed 2nd and Ken Wood placed 3rd. All top 3 shooters scored a 428, but the ties were broken by bonus rings where Tony had 18 and Ken had 16.
Finally, in the women’s known 50 division, Paige continues to be a top finisher in her class as she took her 4th win of the year. She won against a tight race as second place was only 1 point away and her 3rd place competitor was 4 points away!
Not only were the pros on fire this weekend, but the armatures were rocking the range as well! In total GAS shooters accumulated over 20 podium finishes for the weekend! Congratulations and we hope to see everyone at the Classic in Cullman, Al!
