CLAY CITY, KY– Last week was the start of the Hyundai World Archery Championships in Berlin. Several GAS Shooters were successful in earning podium positions, three of those being individual podiums and five being team podium finishes.
In the women’s compound division, two GAS shooters shot in eliminations finals matches. Andrea Becerra shot her way up through eliminations to the gold medal match. The scores were tight, and she ended up just two points shy of the gold medal where she earned a hard-fought second-place finish!
Jyothi Vennam added to her successful season at World Archery events with a third-place finish. She dominated the bronze medal match, by defeating her opponent with a perfect score, 150, to her competitor’s 146.
In the men’s compound division, Mike Schloesser found success after a tight bronze medal match! Mike defeated his competitor 148-147, taking third place! In addition to this success, Mike was able to score a 148 or above in all his matches but one during eliminations!
In team rounds, the Denmark men’s compound team, including GAS Shooter Mathias Fullerton, was able to take a second-place finish after their gold medal match. They tied in score with their opponents and just lost the match during a shoot-off for a strong second-place finish. Also in men’s compound, the Netherland’s men’s compound team, including GAS Shooter Mike Schloesser, took a third-place finish beating out their competitors 235-231.
In the women’s compound team rounds, the Indian women’s team, including GAS Shooter Jyothi Vennam, went up against the Mexican women’s team, including GAS Shooters Dafne Quintero and Andrea Becerra. The Indian women’s compound team beat the Mexican women’s team by 235-229 where they took the gold medal and the Mexican women’s compound team took silver!
Rounding out the weekend’s successes, the Colombian mixed team, including GAS Shooter Sara Lopez, was able to take a second-place finish after their gold medal match! They just came short of first by two points, earning them a formidable second-place finish!
