CLAY CITY, KY– The Arizona Cup marks the first competition of the USAT circuit! Starting on April 14th, archers competed for podium positions, USAT points, World Youth Team spots, and World and Pan Am Team Trial points. Several GAS Bowstrings Shooters had victories this past weekend at the AZ Cup!
In the compound senior women’s division, Toja Ellison took the gold medal in a tight match between her and Tanja Gellenthien. Toja qualified in fourth place while Tanja qualified in second. Both ladies fought their way through their elimination matches to the gold medal match where Toja came out the victor scoring 146 to Tanja’s 145!
In the compound senior men’s division, Jimmy Lutz took second place! Jimmy was sitting in fourth after qualifications where he worked himself through eliminations to the gold medal match! He and his competitor then tied scores at 149-149 where they had to shoot a one-arrow-closest-to-center for the gold. Jimmy’s competitor’s arrow was just closer to the center and Jimmy took the silver!
Brady Ellison had a great weekend at the Arizona Cup as well! After qualifications, he was the top-ranked archer with a 690 score! Brady worked his way through the eliminations matches up to the bronze medal match where he won the match straight-up with a 6-0 set point score!
Two GAS Shooters took to the podium in the compound open men’s division, where KJ Polish took first place with a 687 and Matt Stutzman followed closely in second with a 685! The recurve open men’s division was also close in scores as Eric Bennett secured a second-place finish with a 606!
In addition to the excitement of the Arizona Cup, three GAS Shooters were able to qualify for the World Archery Youth Championships that will be held in Limerick, Ireland, July 1-9th! These archers are Landyn Cox and Grady Kane who will represent the USA in the compound U18 men’s division and Isaac Sullivan who will represent the USA in the compound U21 men’s division!
Congratulations to everyone who did well at the Arizona Cup this past weekend! As always, we are excited to see so many of these shooters’ successes and are proud that so many of the top archers are shooting GAS Bowstrings!
