Team GAS Dominates World Cup in Medellin

Clay City, Ky.- This past weekend at the World Cup in Medellin, Colombia was a huge success for Team GAS Bowstrings! Eleven GAS shooters made the top ten in each of their divisions along with many more who made individual eliminations and team rounds.

It was a full GAS Podium in the compound men’s division as Abhishek Verma took first place, James Lutz took second, and Nick Kappers in third! Abhishek qualified in eight with a 707 but was able to work himself through some tough matches, including one with Mike Schloesser where Abhishek won in a closest-to-center shoot-off. He worked his way up to the gold medal match where he then faced James Lutz. James qualified in second place and was able to hold that position through his matches up to the gold medal match where Abhishek took the victory, 148-146. Nick Kappers qualified in fourteenth going into eliminations, where he fought to get to the bronze medal match, beating his opponent 148-143.

In the women’s compound division, two GAS Shooters made their way to the podium! Those archers were Sara Lopez and Sarah Prieels. Sara Lopez qualified in third with a 707 and she was able to work her way up to the gold medal match where she took second place! Sarah Prieels, qualified in twelfth, and after many tough matches in eliminations, she made it to the bronze match where she took third place, 145-144.

In addition to these individual successes, Team GAS saw many more in team rounds! Team Mexico saw success as their men’s compound team including GAS shooters Sebastian Garcia and Miguel Becerra took second place! In addition, the Mexican mixed team made up of GAS shooters Sebastian Garcia and Dafne Quintero also took a second-place finish!

Team Colombia had a successful weekend as well in their home country as their women’s team, including GAS shooters Sara Lopez and Alejandra Usquiano took a second-place finish! Then the Colombian mixed team, including GAS shooter Sara Lopez, took the gold!

The Indian team had success as well at Medellin as their men’s compound team including GAS shooter, Abhishek Verma, took a third-place finish. Their women’s compound team, including GAS shooter Jyothi Vennam, also garnered a third-place finish!

Finally, the USA was able to capture a first-place finish in recurve mixed team! That team, including GAS Shooter Brady Ellison, was able to beat their opponent in a 5-4 gold medal match!

GAS Bowstrings would like to congratulate all these archers on their incredible successes this past weekend! In total, these shooters took home twelve podium finishes!
